All you need to know about Waterproof Charging

Waterproof charging had been long on our wish list and developing list. This year we finally managed to implement a solution and make it available to our users. Currently the waterproof charging option is only available on our X models. Our brand new SP10X comes with the cable and plug all included, whilst on the SP08X the feature is optional and will only be available for tablets being sold after April 2024. Unfortunately, older models can not benefit from this option as the waterproof cable and connection require the tablet to be equipped with the special build in charging port, to accommodate the waterproof charge. If in doubt please always double check with us before ordering the optional waterproof charging cable.

Waterproof cable and Connector

Our new X models are equipped with an IP67 waterproof port. This port is build in the tablet itself and therefore only the newer tablets that have the build in port take advantage of the feature. The cable is supplied with a socket (female connector). Same requires installation to the on board electrical system (9-36v power source). The socket should be installed in close proximity to the desired position of the Tablet (the supplied cable has a length of 1.5m) and preferably offer some protection against the elements (under dodger/spray hood, near companionway), as during the process of unplugging and plugging the charging cable the elements are not protected against water ingress and damages can occur*.

It is strongly recommended to install a 5 amp fuse before the socket to provide additional protection to the system.

* Please note that from the moment the cap is removed, sealing is ensured only when the supplied cable is connected to the port. In wet conditions, it is required to connect the cable to the tablet inside the boat and not in the cockpit. In the event of a defect, if the port has been subjected to splashes of water while it was neither protected from its cap, nor connected to the waterproof charging cable, the warranty will not intervene.

Happy boating!
